Planned routing
Ok so after reading over a few guide books / web articles I have come up with an initial itinerary for our travels.
A lot of this will be dependant on weather and especially fog. The good thing is 80% of the paddling is in very sheltered waters and that if we have fog we should still be able to do some travelling in certain areas as we are no on any major shipping routes.
I am attaching 6 images that show our planned trek.
Day 1 has two 1.5 hour legs depending on how well we paddle as a group that could vary.
Day 2 and 3 are exploration days to some of the more interesting close islands with both days being close to 4 hours of paddling at a slow sightseeing pace as there is much to see and explore.
Day 4 will be the paddle back to our pick up location. We will need to watch the weather forecasts as well for those that have to get back.
There is not much for current in the Broken Group of Islands. So that means timing is not as essential as it was last year. Max 1 kt current shift in most areas.
The big question is do we want to put down camp at one location or do we want to move camp to a second location. The island I chose for camping is a fairly central, yet far enough form Torquot bay that we should loose some of the begginer kayaing tourist groups which usually camp on the closer islands.
No matter where we camp it won;t be like last year - we will have lots of campers around us. The Broken Group of Islands are the no. 1 kayaking destination in canada if not North America.
